Political speech project - “MDC Democracy’s college elections Matter!”

- This blog will provide my personal thoughts of my group presentation and explanation of the project development

Objective
: This project aims to research and develop an analysis of a topic we have chosen. This theme is about political elections, and Professor Sherri has given us four different subtopics to choose from. The following issues each group had to focus on were gender equality, education policies, immigration policies, the electorate, and the election process.

Outline & Brochure

Process: I was in group 2 and we all decided on choosing Gender equality for our theme. After choosing this topic, we started planning our roles for this project. My role was to research about different organizations that were involved with gender equality. Me and Davaria partnered up to examine and discuss about these organizations. The organization we’ve worked on, which was, “The National Woman’s Party”, “The leagues of women voter”, and “Vote16USA”. In our part in the presentation, we explained each organization’s goals, highlighted their current programs, and discussed the challenges they face in addressing gender inequality. By showcasing these organizations, we aimed to provide our audience with a better understanding of the importance of advocating for ourselves through protest movements. Obtaining our roles was the second step in organizing our group, the third step was creating the brochure. The brochure was created by Cindy and it was a full summary of what we were going to speak on our presentation. The last step was to individually work on our parts and gather all acquired knowledge to the google slides.

Experience:  Reflecting on the outcome of our project, I feel that it was a success. Everyone in our group came prepared, having thoroughly researched their individual roles, and all were ready to present with confidence. The process went surprisingly smoothly, with no major setbacks or last-minute challenges. Our teamwork and organization delivered our portions effectively and cohesively. However, one minor area of improvement could have been the layout of our slides. While the presentation as a whole was visually engaging, it did have a slightly disorganized appearance. Each group member added unique designs and styles to their slides, which, while colorful and creative, made the overall look a bit inconsistent. Nevertheless, I think this actually added a unique charm to our project, reflecting each person’s individual style and perspective. This diversity in presentation mirrored the diversity of perspectives we encountered in our research on gender equality—a theme that requires multiple viewpoints to understand fully. Our presentation was both informative and compelling, and I was especially struck by the confidence it gave me in the theme we had chosen. Delving deeply into the topic of gender equality through political participation and historical advocacy made me realize just how impactful this issue has been throughout history, particularly for women. For centuries, the right to vote and participate fully in society was withheld from women, leading to a long and challenging struggle. From our research, I gained a newfound respect for the activists who fought relentlessly for the rights of women. It took countless demonstrations, speeches, marches, and even personal sacrifices to achieve meaningful change. One of the most significant milestones we discussed was the 19th Amendment in 1920, a landmark achievement that granted women the right to vote in the United States. This amendment, stating that the right to vote cannot be denied on the basis of sex, represents decades of hard-won progress. But it also reminded me that this struggle is ongoing, as gender equality still faces many challenges worldwide for example abortion, child marriages, sexual assault, and more other issues.

In conclusion, this project deepened my understanding of gender equality and its connection to political activism. It reminded me that these issues aren’t just historical events; they continue to shape our society today. I’m grateful for the insights gained from this experience, and I believe our group’s work helped convey the importance of these issues to our audience. This project has truly motivated me to consider the power of individual and collective action in bringing about positive social change.
